Childhood Injury Prevention

Injury is defined as “any unintentional or intentional damage to the body resulting from acute exposure to thermal, mechanical, electrical, or chemical energy or from the absence of such essentials as health or oxygen.” (National Committee for Injury Prevention & Control 1989)

At the North Shore Health Department we offer a few services to prevent some common causes of childhood injury.

Car Seat Education and Safety Checks:

Motor vehicles are a leading cause of death among children in the United States, but many of these deaths can be prevented. Making sure children are in age and size appropriate car seats, booster seats, and seat belts reduces serious and fatal injuries by more than half. (CDC - Preventing Child Passenger Injury)

Schedule a car seat safety check and installation with the North Shore Health Department or North Shore Fire/Rescue!

We can help you install a car seat or booster seat and/or help you adjust straps or any other car seat related question. We offer regular car seat checks as well! Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are also welcome. Click the link above to request a car seat check with NSHD or North Shore Fire/Rescue.
