North Shore Health Department has water testing kits available for residents of the North Shore!

Want to test the water in your home? The water testing kits are free for pick up from our office and the kit is sent to Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene for testing in Madison, Wisconsin after you collect your water. You will be billed from the lab for which ever tests you request.

Here is a list of the tests the lab can run:

  • Bacteria (Total Coliform/E.coli)

  • Heterotrophic plate count

  • Iron bacteria

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

  • Arsenic

  • Atrazine

  • Copper

  • Fluoride

  • Hardness (Calcium, Magnesium)

  • Iron

  • Lead

  • Metals Screen (Aluminum, Arsenic, Cadmium, Calcium, Chromium,

    Copper, Iron, Lead, Magnesium, Manganese, Nickel, Strontium,

    Vanadium, Zinc, and Hardness) *No substitutions

  • Manganese

  • Nitrate

  • Radon (only necessary if air radon levels are high)

  • Volatile Organic Chemicals

Other Environmental Tests:

  • Asbestos in building material (tiles, ceilings)

  • Lead in paint chips, soil ad surface dust

  • Mold testing

The prices of these tests vary. There are packages available if needing multiple tests.
